TOURISM SNAPSHOT
Tourism Toronto’s Holiday Celebration is a great chance to connect with other members, who represent a wide range of businesses and services in the GTA. Here are the top five segments that make up the over 1,200 member organizations:

  • Attraction/Recreation/Entertainment - 314 (25%)
  • Restaurant & Nightlife - 201 (16%)
  • Accommodations - 178 (14%)
  • Meeting Services - 146 (12%)
  • Meeting Facilities - 140 (11%)

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
Networking with Canada’s sport elite
The power of sport was felt at the Coaching Association of Canada’s Petro-Canada Sport Leadership Sportif, November 8-10 in Montreal. The conference is the largest gathering of the coaching community in Canada with 700+ delegates comprising Canada’s top coaches, sport scientists and sport leaders. It was an excellent opportunity for Tourism Toronto to show support for sport and be among this select group of individuals and organizations.

National Geographic explores Toronto’s wintry side
Toronto was featured as one of the "Best Winter Trips 2013" in National Geographic’s online version. The only North American city mentioned, the piece highlights such urban delights as skating at Nathan Phillips Square and Harbourfront, Winterlicious, as well as the unique PATH system. National Geographic Traveler.com sees over 4.5 million unique visitors per month.

Gourmet Argentina
Fifteen thousand Argentinian foodies feasted their eyes on Toronto via Gourmet magazine as a result of a media visit hosted by TT earlier this year. Culture, hotels and, of course, food were all dished up.

Bowling for clients
On November 8, TT participated in the Greater Midwest Chapter of the Professional Convention Management Association’s annual Bowl A Thon in Chicago, where, for the second year, the silent auction package contributed on behalf of the Toronto hospitality community garnered the highest bid in the auction, furthering awareness and interest in the destination. This event draws 500+ meeting planners and industry suppliers every year.

HuffPo's ten reasons to visit
A journalist hosted by TT’s Media Relations team recently filed a slideshow for the Huffington Post that highlights the Royal Ontario Museum, the CN Tower, the St. Lawrence Market and other mainstays of the destination. Huffington Post receives 6.5 million visitors monthly.

Chile takes in Toronto film
As a result of a press visit TT secured during TIFF, El Mercurio, the major daily newspaper in Chile, published a pop culture take on Toronto in its Sunday edition, the most read day of the week. Circulation for El Mercurio is 350,000+.

Fêting government clients in their workplace
TT, in partnership with 15 government sales manager members, recently staged a tradeshow for over 100 potential clients at the Ontario government building on Bay Street. These provincial government meeting administrators were treated to Toronto hospitality with a festive theme while learning about each member’s services.

À la Québécoise
A Montreal-based writer was recently in Toronto enjoying the Shangri-La Hotel, Momofuku, Strada 241 and the AGO’s Frida and Diego exhibit and wrote all about it in her blog for Clin d'oeil magazine. Similar to Flare Magazine, Clin d’oeil is aimed at Quebec women interested in fashion and trends and its website receives 30,000 unique visitors per month.

Toronto on Board
From November 10-12 in Charleston, South Carolina, Tourism Toronto participated in the Leadership Retreat sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives. TT’s Dawn Eagleton is the Chair of the International Conference Committee and will play a key role in developing the content for the 2013 program, which enables Team Toronto to position itself as the consultative partner today’s clients seek.

California dreamin’
On November 10–14, Tourism Toronto’s corporate team, along with members of the Toronto community, attended Financial & Insurance Conference Planners’ Annual Conference at L.A. Live in Los Angeles. With over 350 planners in attendance and a fantastic strategic partnership, Toronto is on the forefront of their minds.

As a result of a media mission to L.A. in April, LGBT publication Frontiers LA published "Toronto's Top 10." World Pride 2014 and the city’s unique LGBT nightlife, restaurants and hotels are all highlighted.

WHAT'S NEXT
Taking Toronto to the Mid-West
Three days of appointments with corporate clients and two events highlighting the ease of hosting a corporate meeting in Canada is the thrust of the Canadian Tourism Commission’s “Canada Couture” events. TT’s Corporate Sales team will be front and centre in Minneapolis and Chicago from November 27 to December 1.

Direct to conference planners
From November 27-30 in New Orleans, Team Toronto will participate in the CDX conference which brings together all of ConferenceDirect’s top producers, key clients and select industry partners for three days of education, best practice sharing, networking and business development. Participation in this event along with the Canadian Tourism Commission provides unparalleled access to some of the biggest and best third party planners and their clients in one fell swoop.

Holiday events bring showcase opportunities
At what has now become a tradition in Ottawa, over 100 clients and 23 Tourism Toronto members will join together to host the Annual Holiday Client Event on November 28. This year we will feature great Toronto food and live music in Ottawa’s Byward Market for an evening of networking and holiday spirit.

On December 13, the Chicago Sales team will participate in the Holiday Showcase put on by The Association Forum of Chicagoland. The one-day education and trade show will draw 2,300 attendees and 700 exhibitors, including the nation’s leading hotels, convention and visitor bureaus and business service suppliers. TT, along with several members, will be exhibiting once again for the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the key contacts in the U.S. association market.
