TOURISM SNAPSHOT
After a record 9.1 million hotel room nights were sold in Toronto last year, 2013 is off to an encouraging start:
  • The total number of Room Nights Sold in Toronto was up in January by 2.6% over January last year and the Occupancy Rate was up 2.1% over January a year ago.
  • The trend continued through February with a 5.9% increase in room nights sold for the 28-day period ending February 23, compared with the same 28 days a year earlier. That increased demand translated into a 5.3% increase in occupancy rate over the same time one year earlier.
  • Toronto is outpacing the rest of the country in hotel demand. Hotel occupancy for all of Canada was up 0.2% for the month of January and 0.6% for the 28-day period ending February 23.

RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
Priceless Toronto
Tourism Toronto has teamed up with MasterCard for a second year for the “Priceless Toronto” marketing program. Various packages featuring World MasterCard Fashion Week, a world music concert series and dining in Toronto are being promoted via print, search engine marketing and targeted e-mail blasts. The partnership aims to both highlight Toronto as a fantastic urban weekend escape and the Priceless Toronto program’s strong value and incentive for MasterCard holders to experience the destination. Mexico feasts on TO culinary coverage
As a result of a media mission by TT last fall to Mexico City in which we promoted Toronto and the city’s amazing culinary scene, El Universal published an article about several of Toronto’s restaurants in the February 17 issue. El Universal is a major daily newspaper with 300,000 readers in print and 3 million unique visitors online.

Bleu & Blanc is a hip Mexican travel magazine and as a result of a recent press trip hosted by TT’s Media Relations team, this story will be published in the March 2013. Circulation for Bleu & Blanc is 100,000.

Argentina sees the many faces of Toronto
With a readership of 450,000 in the Punte del Este region of Argentina, Verano Magazine’s item “Toronto: So Many Cities in One” provides a showcase of a variety of Toronto’s charms for its readers. This article has an equivalent advertising value of $22,000.

U.S. golfers encouraged to venture outside the course
As a result of a golf-themed press tour hosted by TT in July 2012, Toronto is profiled in the winter 2013 Golf Guide. In addition to Toronto’s many golf courses, the article features over a dozen Toronto offerings including the Hockey Hall of Fame, CN Tower’s EdgeWalk, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Windsor Arms. The Golf Guide is distributed quarterly in the mid-Atlantic U.S. region.
