The Hotel Association of Canada is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year and is reflecting on accomplishments of the past years including its annual Travel Intentions Survey. A few of the key findings from the last seven years of data are:
  • Sixty per cent of leisure and business travellers make reservations online. Only 26 per cent and 29 per cent, respectively, did so in 2006;
  • One out of every four travellers said they are looking on social media sites to see what is being said about accommodations, while in 2009, none of the survey respondents said they were using social media to research hotels;
  • Loyalty programs have become a cornerstone for travellers. Over the past seven years, the importance of these programs has more than doubled for both leisure (from 19 per cent to 40 per cent) and business travellers (from 25 per cent to 56 per cent).

Digital Dreams in Toronto
Tourism Toronto is again partnering with Digital Dreams, Canada’s largest EDM (Electronic Dance Music) festival, and offering hotel/ticket packages. The festival takes place Canada Day weekend – this year June 29 & 30 – and with major EDM artists in the line-up again this year, attendance is expected to be over 25,000. Association executives gather
From March 10-13, Team Toronto joined about 600 association executives for the 10th Annual ASAE Great Ideas Conference in Colorado Springs. This conference has gained a reputation for exceptional, innovative learning and networking events. As part of our strategic partnership with ASAE, along with CTC’s Business Events Canada, we co-hosted the “Spot Learning Lounge” where each partner city hosted its own special events, as well as the Canada Night Dinner for clients.

Brit women learn about stylish TO
Toronto makes the list in the “Top 10 for 2013: North America” from Stylist magazine. Aimed at successful and sophisticated women aged between 20 and 40 years old, U.K.-based Stylist covers fashion, entertainment, arts and travel.

Washington Post Travel goes native
Keriwa Café, a Queen West restaurant devoted to First Nations and local cuisine, caught the attention of the Washington Post, and its 2 million readers online with “Smart Mouth: Native American Dining in Toronto.

Driving visitors to Toronto
The American Automobile Association’s Northern New England Journey was a part of a TT press tour which took place during TIFF last year. The two-page feature in the March/April 2013 issue examines the city and spots celebrities. This member publication of AAA Northern New England features tips for romantic and family weekend getaways and has a combined circulation of over 500,000.

DMAI events bring opportunities
Along with 500 industry leaders and high-value association executives, Team Toronto attended the prestigious 20th Annual Destination Management Association International’s Destination & Travel Foundation Dinner on March 13 in Washington, DC. The next day, TT joined 200 other destinations from around the world to exhibit at the Annual DMAI's Destinations Showcase, North America's largest one-day event bringing conference, convention and trade show professionals together with exhibiting meeting destinations. These events allowed TT to connect with existing clients as well as to develop new prospects.

Antiquing draws high-value visitors
As a result of TT’s Media Relations efforts, included Toronto in its “Top Destinations for Antiques.” Highlighted among other stylish international destinations, Toronto’s antiquing hot spots include Cynthia Findlay Antiques, Queen West Antique Centre and the Gladstone Hotel. Published for American Express Platinum Card and Centurion members, focuses on vacations, travel, fashion, food and culture.

Dram Fine Time in Toronto
TT’s Media Relations, in partnership with OTMP and CTC, hosted an Australian writer in 2012. The visit resulted in an article on Toronto’s Distillery District that appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald as well as more than 12 regional online newspapers throughout Australia.

National Sport Leaders in Canada
The Tourism Toronto Sport Sales team is heading to the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance Sport Events Congress 2013 from April 8-10 in Ottawa. This one of a kind congress for Sport Tourism in Canada will see 350 delegates attending and TT connecting with key sport rights holders and organizations for one-on-one appointments.

From April 30-May 3, Team Canada will participate in this exclusive event that is focused on education, networking and relationship building amongst Conference Direct’s Top Customers, Associates and Partners in Palm Springs, California. The group will exchange business ideas and explore industry trends while enjoying an opportunity to network and build relationships. This event is another strategic partnership with Conference Direct, alongside CTC’s Business Events Canada, which has proven to provide potential business to the community.

D.C. sales mission
Tourism Toronto will be joined by six TT members April 2-3, for our Annual Washington, D.C. Sales Mission. We will be conducting a series of sales calls and presentations as a “city sell” to high-value association clients, association management companies and third-party meeting planning and site-selection companies. In addition, we will host a Signature Client Event for 16 top clients and prospects.
