Tourism Now April 25, 2012
TOURISM SNAPSHOT
As can be observed in the chart below, arrivals to Ontario from China have increased considerably since 2010. In January and February 2012, arrivals were up 13 per cent over the same period last year, and 2011 was up 52 per cent over 2010. As well, Toronto received over 140,000 overnight visitors in 2011, up 25 per cent over 2010. The increasing number of arrivals from China bodes well for Toronto, as Chinese visitors tend to stay longer in the city than the average overnight visitor (12.5 nights vs. 3.8 nights) and spend more money ($1,134 per party vs. $474 per party).

A major media mission to China last week brought more than 100 journalists to events hosted by Tourism Toronto in the three targeted markets of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. Last year, Tourism Toronto invited six top Chinese photographers to Toronto to capture their impressions of the city and region, including Mississauga, Brampton and Niagara. Having created an elegant gift book with the photos, Tourism Toronto launched the book to media and trade partners in China to raise interest and awareness in Toronto. The events generated at least 40 media stories in the first 48 hours.

As we look forward to the month-long Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival we'd like to know – what is the name of the massive collection of photographs donated to Ryerson University?

Please send your answer to newsletter@torcvb.com.

The baseball experts who correctly responded to the last trivia question were:

Miranda E. Phillips - Holiday Inn Mississauga Toronto West
Jason Lambert - Mariposa Cruises
Brian Vaughan - Courtyard & Residence Inn by Marriott, Mississauga / Meadowvale
Bill Smith - CSTT Sports Management
Robert J. Meyer - Delta Toronto Airport West

They all knew that the player who has logged the most games with the Toronto Blue Jays was Tony Fernandez.
