Over the past several years, overseas visitors have represented Toronto’s fastest growing market segment. This positive trend is highly beneficial for the destination, as overseas visitors are more likely to stay in a hotel and spend more money and they are especially likely to visit attractions, museums and galleries.

RRR wins TIAC award
Tourism Toronto's signature Relax, Recharge, Renew program was given the Community Service Award at the Tourism Industry Association of Canada’s annual conference! This recognition is not only for Tourism Toronto but is shared by our over 250 members who have donated hotel weekends, attractions and event tickets and meals, so parents of special needs children can have a much-deserved break. We have served 346 families in the four+ years the program has been going and we couldn’t do it without you! We are currently seeking donations for 2013, so please be in touch with Cathy Riches about how you can participate.

Torontoland reaches the capital
As part of the Torontoland holiday campaign, TT’s Marketing team developed a content partnership with CTV-Ottawa. The program includes:

  • daily four-minute segments during CTV Morning Live as the show’s host visits many of Toronto’s holiday events and shopping neighbourhoods
  • a daily contest during CTV Morning Live, inviting viewers to go online to win a weekly trip to Toronto
  • 60-second commercials during CTV News at Six to promote the various segments on CTV Morning Live
  • During CTV News at Six, Weatherman J.J. Clarke launched a contest to win one of three weekly trips to Toronto and did daily reminders over the newshour.

Grey Cup brings media opportunities
TT’s Media Relations team took advantage of the 100th Grey Cup to host a Guys’ Getaway press trip. Media results have started to roll in starting with WestJet’s inflight Up! magazine. Watch for more coverage in the weeks to come. In addition, the celebrations were the focus of many mainstream media outlets including the New York Times, Calgary Sun and many TV, radio and print outlets in Toronto.

Tout Le Monde in Toronto
Media Relations, in partnership with the Four Seasons Toronto, hosted a Paris-based writer as part of a group press trip in October. As a result of that trip, this feature appeared in Le Monde in both the print and online versions. Le Monde is one of the two most read newspapers in France and this article has an advertising equivalency of $144,000.

Direct to conference planners
From November 27-30 in New Orleans, Team Toronto participated in the CDX conference which brought together all of ConferenceDirect’s top producers, key clients and select industry partners for three days of education, best practice sharing, networking and business development. Participation, along with the Canadian Tourism Commission, provided unparalleled access to some of the biggest and best third party planners and their clients in one fell swoop.

Active travels to Toronto
A U.S.-based freelance journalist hosted by TT’s Media Relations team has launched a series of articles on Toronto for his online publication Active Travels. The “Holiday Cheer” series looks at shopping, our architectural boom and more.

Canadians in the director seat
The Canadian Tourism Commission recently released the result of its call for video submissions from Canadians. With everything from a frisbee cam to a close encounter with a moose, it’s a fun, exhilarating glimpse of Canada.

Food industry learns about Toronto
The Media Relations team worked with the editors of Food Arts Magazine to place its most recent story on Toronto, Creating a Scene. The piece features some of the city’s top chefs and dining spots including Ursa, Bosk and Café Boulud, among others. With a circulation of over 56,000, Food Arts Magazine provides the managers, chefs and caterers of fine dining establishments with news and information about the food and beverage industry.

Holiday networking
On December 13, the Chicago Sales team will participate in the Holiday Showcase put on by The Association Forum of Chicagoland. The one-day education and trade show will draw 2,300 attendees and 700 exhibitors, including the nation’s leading hotels, convention and visitor bureaus and business service suppliers. TT, along with several members, will be exhibiting once again for the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the key contacts in the U.S. association market.
